Barkan's Class-Leading Shot

Barkan's Class-Leading Shot HAVELSAN has made a name for itself among the firsts by successfully carrying out two important shots with the unmanned autonomous ground vehicle BARKAN on the 100th anniversary of Turkish Republic.

The first successful shot with BARKAN took place on January 8, 2023, when the guided mini-missile METE, belonging to ROKETSAN, was fired from a ground vehicle for the first time.

HAVELSAN this time successfully carried out the first loiterin ammunition shot from BARKAN 2 on October 12, 2023, and this shot also became the first in its class.

While operating in a 15-kilometer radius area with BARKAN 2, the shooting of the loiterin ammunition for reconnaissance, observation, and loiterin purposes, belonging to Gürbağ Defense, was successfully carried out from a two-launcher system (one launcher laser-guided system, one launcher loitering ammunition) connected to a single tower.

This type of ammunition and multiple launcher firing from a single tower from an UGV is considered as a first in the international arena. The loiterin ammunition fired, has an electric propulsion system, a flight altitude of 3,000 meters, a flight time of 40 minutes, and a range of 15 kilometers.

Different payloads can be quickly integrated into BARKAN, which has entered the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces in recent months thanks to its modular structure. Barkan 2 was developed to be compatible with the integration of weapon systems with higher deterrence. To increase the maneuverability on the field, HAVELSAN successfully completed this integration activity by working together with Gürbağ Defense.

Veysel Ataoğlu, Director of Product Development and Production at HAVELSAN, stated that the MSOC (Mixed Swarm Operations Center) activities carried out in the field recently continue with the use of different types of payloads, and said, "With the addition of these systems to the MSOC, the concept of using loiterin ammunition in swarms will also be realized in the field. As HAVELSAN, we continue our work intensively without deviating from our mission of making these platforms intelligent robots by using our main task, which is software capabilities, on more platforms and payloads."

Ataoğlu stated that by including the products of different companies in the platforms where HAVELSAN provides autonomous and swarm capabilities, different types of concepts will be created in which all systems can function together. He added "We are focused on the concept of the future battlefield, in which all of these unmanned systems, including the Digital Troops Technology put forward and pioneered by HAVELSAN, and swarm concepts, are used as the leading unit in a way that will relieve the hands of our security forces on the field."
